Workshop – Build Your Own Fairy Cottage

A small fairy house sits in between two large boulders, one is covered in green moss. The house has a steep, brown roof. The red front door has five stone steps that lead up to it.

WHEN: I’ll teach you on a one-on-one basis to give you time to finish a house in two full days, (9am-5pm). You can choose a weekend or mid-week if you prefer. Contact me to discuss possible dates that work for you.

WHERE: We will be working in my private air-conditioned studio, between Ojai and Oakview, CA. Exact address will be given upon registration.

COST: The two day workshop is $350.

To hold your space, a deposit of $150 is required at registration, and the balance of $200 is required the first day of the workshop.

Fill out this registration form and you’ll be contacted with exact address and further information.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE WORKSHOP:

A view of a shaded backyard framed by very old oak trees. In the distance is a fence line, and beyond that, a mountain range. It is the view from the terrace where students will be working.

  • Personalized instruction in English or ASL
  • All supplies
  • A blessing on your completed cottage
  • Discussion of your connection to the fairy realm

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Meals are on your own. There are restaurants within a mile of my studio.
  • Old clothes/shoes you can make a mess in
  • Special, small, meaningful pebbles, trinkets, or crystals to put onto your cottage (like a hagstone)
  • A few interesting twigs, about a foot long. If you don’t have them or can’t bring any, you can go through my wood bins.
Five small bone-colored hagstones, which are stones with naturally-occurring holes in them. Each stone has one or two holes.

GETTING AROUND:

If you are flying, the big airports are Los Angeles (LAX), Burbank (BUR) and the nearest, Santa Barbara (SBA), which is about 45 minutes away. You will need a rental car to get from the airport to Ojai and around town when you go to lunch, dinner and hotel.

There is the local OjaiTrolley.com which is inexpensive ($1.50 per ride) and has a stop a couple blocks from my studio (Woodland and Highway 33).

Need accommodations? Here’s a list of local hotels, campgrounds, or AirBnB’s.

  • Fairy glass for the windows
  • Lighting a cottage
  • Adding a chimney
  • Crafting your own forms for doors and windows
  • Make an open-sided “playhouse” with a second floor
  • Make a turret
  • Make a birdhouse on top of your roof
